Context

On the ground floor of my house I have two bathrooms, but neither of them is adapted to my disability:

  • spaces too small to accommodate a caregiver

  • Access impossible with a wheelchair

  • inability to carry out transfers and provide care safely

  • organization unsuitable for care procedures

This situation makes toileting:

  • dangerous

  • physically demanding for the caregiver

  • uncomfortable and stressful for me

  • This is not very compatible with dignified and secure care.

Project objective

The goal is to create a single, larger, and more functional bathroom by merging two existing bathrooms, in order to:

  • to allow a caregiver to intervene under good conditions

  • to facilitate transfers (chair → shower → chair)

  • reduce the risk of falls and injuries

  • improve the working conditions of the caregiver

  • to guarantee hygiene care in a safe and dignified environment

Planned work

The proposed changes are:

  • demolition of the partition wall separating the two bathrooms

  • creation of a unique, large and accessible space

  • installation of a walk-in shower allowing wheelchair access

  • Sufficient space for a caregiver

  • non-slip flooring

  • washbasin adapted for care

  • faucets accessible to the caregiver

  • complete reorganization of the plumbing and electrical systems

  • Access adaptations (doors, thresholds)
